15 Famous Inventions That History Credits to the Wrong Person

History does not always give credit to the right person. In many cases, the name we remember is not the person who had the original idea, built the first version, or did the hardest work. Sometimes, a famous inventor had better lawyers, better timing, or better access to the people who could turn an idea into a legacy. Other times, the real creator was too poor, too overlooked, or too far outside the mainstream to fight for recognition.

The pattern shows up again and again. Someone develops something useful or groundbreaking, shares it with the wrong person, or fails to secure the right paperwork. Then a more powerful or better-connected name steps in, and over time, the simplified version becomes the story everyone knows.

In this slideshow, we look at 15 famous inventions with origin stories that are more complicated than most people realize. These are the cases where the wrong name ended up in the history books, and the real story is far more interesting.
