Villians are interesting characters, an integral part of both film and television shows, and since the inception of TV in the early part of the 20th century, we have been exposed to both the good and the bad characters that comprise a program. Just as in life, we often run into those that help and those that hinder. For every protagonist, there is an antagonist that creates havoc in their lives.

Typically reviled for their attitude toward life, their lack of compassion, and their mean-spirited ways, villains have a unique place in society – they aren't favored but without them, there may be no heroes. One of the first and most well-known TV sitcoms to emerge in the early part of its creation was the 1950s comedy, "I Love Lucy." As this type of family entertainment began to grow, one thing was common among them all. Each sitcom needed a villain.

While we don't usually enjoy having villains in our lives, there is something particularly entertaining about numerous scoundrels found in the fictional world that makes them rather delightful. A villain leaves room to challenge the main character, often becoming a lovable fan favorite all on their own. (Movies have their own well-loved villains too, like Marvel's Cassandra Nova, who debuts in the new Marvel Cinematic Universe film, "Deadpool & Wolverine.")

To create this list of the most iconic sitcom movie villains, 24/7 Tempo compiled information from various entertainment sources including IMDb, Rolling Stone, and The Guardian. These are some of the best sitcom villains we've seen on TV and while not all villains have lead roles, perhaps they should. (Check out this article on supporting characters who deserve to be the lead.)
