15 of Modern TV’s Greatest Sitcom Villains

Villains may be disliked for their cruelty, selfishness, or lack of empathy, but they are essential to great storytelling. Without memorable villains, heroes would have no one to challenge them, and many stories would lose their tension and excitement.

In sitcoms, villains often appear in a lighter or more comedic form, creating conflict while still delivering laughs. Some become fan favorites thanks to their outrageous behavior, sharp insults, or perfectly timed schemes.

For this list, we looked at entertainment sources such as IMDb, Rolling Stone, and The Guardian to identify some of the most iconic sitcom villains ever to appear on television. While many of them weren’t the main characters, their presence helped create some of the most memorable moments in TV comedy.
