The Global Currencies Counterfeiters Target the Most

Counterfeiting has existed for as long as money itself. As printing technology, digital imaging, and global trade have advanced, so have the methods used to create fake currency. Governments around the world now add complex security features to banknotes, including holograms, watermarks, microprinting, and color shifting ink to make counterfeiting more difficult.

Even with these protections, some currencies are targeted more often than others. Banknotes that circulate widely, hold high value, or are accepted internationally can be especially attractive to counterfeiters.

In this slideshow, we look at the currencies that are most frequently counterfeited around the world and explore why they are common targets. By examining circulation levels and modern security measures, we can better understand the ongoing effort to stay one step ahead of counterfeit operations.
