20 States With the Highest Rent Increases, According to 2025 Data
It's no secret that rent has gotten expensive. The same apartment you rented ten, five, or even one year ago is likely a higher price tag than you remember. This isn't a problem in just a few states, either, or even just in the U.S. Still, there are a few states that are seeing rent hikes at a higher and faster rate. Do you live in one of these states?
In the U.S., in 2022, rent went up 12.2% in just a year. While it's slowed down to 0.8%, this isn't true for every market. But which ones?
For this slideshow, 24/7 Tempo used 2024 and 2025 data to compare rent in states seeing a high increase. The numbers are subject to change as rent can change month by month. Each slideshow contains the average rent price in 2024 and 2025, while also listing the most and least expensive cities for rent. The average rent is calculated for a two bedroom apartment.
