20 U.S. Cities Where Retirees Are Truly Thriving

Retirement looks different for everyone, but the right city can make this stage of life easier, more affordable, and more enjoyable. Housing costs, access to quality health care, tax policies, nearby parks, walkable neighborhoods, and everyday conveniences all play a major role in how comfortable retirement can be. For older Americans living on fixed incomes, those factors can make the difference between simply getting by and having room to enjoy the next chapter.

24/7 Tempo looks at 20 U.S. cities where retirees are finding a strong mix of affordability, services, outdoor access, and quality of life. To identify these places, we considered factors such as cost of living, housing affordability, access to hospitals and medical care, parks and trails, and retiree-friendly tax conditions, including states with low or no income tax.

Affordability remains one of the biggest concerns for retirees, but it is not the only factor that matters. A city also needs to offer convenience, safety, health care access, and ways to stay active and connected. These cities stand out because they offer many of the qualities retirees often look for when choosing where to spend their later years.
