Hollywood loves to create films that have been adapted from books, a process that first started as early as the late 19th century when French director Georges Méliès turned the novel "Cinderella" into the film version (known by its French name, "Cendrillon"). This popular format has been a success in the film industry, spawning such classics as the "Lord of the Rings" franchise.

Thanks to J. R. R. Tolkien, an English scholar and author who wrote the novel of the same name between 1937 and 1949, we were given the chance to see one of the most popular stories in 20th-century literature come to life. Not every adaptation is successful, like "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" or "Divergent" but for fans of Middle-Earth, "Lord of the Rings" has proven an excellent variation.

In 2001, "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" pulled in more than $313 million from audiences. "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" earned more than $339 million in 2002. Then, in 2003, "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" generated more than $377 million. With each new movie, it's clear that the earning capacity grew.

To see if you think you know Middle Earth and can answer these "Lord of the Rings" questions, 24/7 has compiled this list by consulting several entertainment sources, including Trivia Nerd, IMDb, Fun Trivia, Trivia Bliss, and Useful Trivia.
