Every once in a while, a night out singing karaoke with friends is needed. There is just something so exciting and healing about singing at the top of your lungs with no care in the world. You don't have to have the vocal range of Mariah Carey or Celine Dion to enjoy it either.
But which songs are the best ones? Which songs will get others to join along and shout the lyrics too? Follow along to find out.
"Girls Just Want to Have Fun" (1983)

If you want a song to get everyone, no matter the age group or gender, up and out of their seats singing, you should put on "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." Not only are the lyrics easy and catchy, but almost everyone knows the song. You also don't need to sing it perfectly to have a good time. This pop hit song is award-winning too. It won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Female Video in 1984.
"Oops…I Did It Again" (2000)

Britney Spears is a must during karaoke night. It's like she performed and released the songs, knowing they'd still be hits decades later. You'll notice her name pop up again on our list later because of her popularity. The first song of ours that is a must for karaoke night is "Oops…I Did It Again." The song is also a lot of fun to dance to with its sassy lyrics.
"Super Bass" (2010)
- Original Artist: Nicki Minaj
You don't have to go too old school when finding the perfect karaoke song. Another popular karaoke song is "Super Bass" by Nicki Minaj. She took the world by storm with this fast-pop song. While there are rap verses within the song, they aren't too fast, meaning you and the crowd can follow along.
"Total Eclipse of the Heart" (1983)
- Original Artist: Bonnie Tyler
Bonnie Tyler's biggest hit, without a doubt, is "Total Eclipse of the Heart." Although it's her single, she sang it as a duet with Rory Dodd. "Total Eclipse of the Heart" is a slower song than a few others on our list, but it's worth a try on karaoke night. It's soothing and heartfelt, perfect to let your feelings out.
"Bohemian Rhapsody" (1975)

"Bohemian Rhapsody" is one of the most well-known songs internationally. How can you not want to sing this rock song on karaoke night with friends or even strangers? There are so many unique aspects to this song as it changes rhythm frequently and incorporates many different instruments. While you can sing it alone, it's more fun with others. The song is also a long one with a runtime of nearly six minutes.
"I Want It That Way" (1999)
- Original Artist: Backstreet Boys
Although boy bands are almost a thing of the past, who can resist singing a Backstreet Boys song? The Backstreet Boys took the world by storm during the '90s and early 2000s. One of their most popular songs is "I Want It That Way." It's super easy to sing and dance along to. So, how popular was the song? When it was first released, it was nominated for three Grammy Awards.
"Respect" (1965)
- Original Artist: Otis Redding (original singer) and Aretha Franklin (covered)
Not a lot of people recognize the name Otis Redding, but he was the "King of Souls" and the original singer of the song "Respect." While true, two years after its release, Aretha Franklin covered and rearranged it. Decades later, most of us only know Franklin's loud and passionate version. Her vocals on this song are intense, but you don't need to sing like her to enjoy it. Karaoke is more about having fun and letting out your feelings than it is about having the best voice.
"Don't Go Breaking My Heart" (1976)

Although released in 1976, "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" continues to be a popular song, especially in karaoke sessions. This upbeat and adorable song is a fun duet that you can sing with your partner or friend. It's also not unheard of to sing this song alone and wait for others to join.
"Bye Bye Bye" (2000)

If you don't want to sing Backstreet Boys songs, try NSYNC. This popular '90s and early 2000s boy band achieved international stardom quickly with songs like "Bye Bye Bye." This catchy song doesn't take long to learn. While you can sing it alone, you can also create your own boy band cover group and sing with three others.
"Let It Go" (2013)

"Frozen" was an international success. One of the most impactful songs to come from this Disney animated film was "Let It Go." Although performed by Idina Menzel, who portrayed Queen Elsa in the film, the song was written and created by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. While "Let It Go" isn't the easiest song to sing because of Menzel's jaw-dropping range, it's still a fun one. Any Disney song can get people up and singing.
"Tik Tok" (2009)

Kesha is considered a queen of the early to mid-2000s. She performed so many successful hits including the ultra fun song, "Tik Tok." This dance-pop song is easy to sing. Honestly, you could get away with just talking through the song and enjoying the beat. While generic, it's fun, which is the most important part of choosing a karaoke song.
"Toxic" (2003)
- Original Artist: Britney Spears
Britney Spears gets another mention with her song "Toxic." Over two decades after its release, it's still an exciting song to sing and dance to. The vocals aren't too high or hard to nail either, making it the perfect song for a night out with friends. Although sung by Britney Speaks, Bloodshy & Avant, Cathy Dennis, and Henrik Jonback wrote the song.
"Mamma Mia" (1975)
- Original Artist: ABBA
"Mamma Mia" is iconic, regardless of which version of the song you sing. While first sung by the Swedish pop group ABBA, it gained even more popularity and notoriety with the musical film, "Mamma Mia." Honestly, whatever song you choose from ABBA can be a hit at karaoke, including songs like "Waterloo" and "Does Your Mother Know."
"Party in the U.S.A." (2009)
- Original Artist: Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus has had many hit songs in her decades-long career. "Party in the U.S.A." is a more popular one. Not only is it super easy to sing, but it's also relatable. The song tells the story of someone moving from a small town to a larger city. In Cyrus's case, she sings about her move from Nashville, Tennessee, to Hollywood, California.
"Jolene" (1973)
- Original Artist: Dolly Parton
Dolly Parton is a terrific songwriter and singer. She's been active in the music industry since 1955 and continues to wow music lovers. "Jolene" is one of her top songs and is frequently covered even today. It's a short song, only running for under three minutes, and yet tells a story of a woman begging another beautiful woman not to steal her man. The story alone is a great reason to choose it as a karaoke song.
"Bring Me to Life" (2003)
- Original Artist: Evanescence
Evanescence steals hearts with beautiful and alluring songs. One of these is "Bring Me to Life." The lead singer, Amy Lee, wrote the song when she was only 19. It's a stunning and almost ethereal song that is incredible to sing with a group of people. While not very upbeat or happy, the chorus is too catchy not to sing. "Bring Me to Life" was incredibly successful, earning a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance.
"I Will Survive" (1978)
- Original Artist: Gloria Gaynor
"I Will Survive" is a strong and empowering song. Even if you don't have the voice to hit every single note, it's worth singing to. This powerful and emotional song is a staple in most karaoke nights. Performed by Gloria Gaynor, it is her most popular and well-known single. This song has won countless awards and recognition. For instance, the Library of Congress chose this song for preservation in the National Recording Registry.
"Bad Romance" (2009)
- Original Artist: Lady Gaga
There is no way a Lady Gaga song wasn't going to make it on our list. This talented star has crafted and performed various songs perfect for a karaoke night amongst friends. "Bad Romance" in particular, is a great song for karaoke. The lyrics are fun, simple, and easy to remember. The song is about attracting bad romances. If you're not a fan of this song, sing another Lady Gaga hit like "Telephone."
"Before He Cheats" (2005)
- Original Artist: Carrie Underwood
You don't have to love country music to want to belt out "Before He Cheats." It's a perfect breakup song that is easily relatable. If you've recently been cheated on and want to sing out your feelings, give "Before He Cheats" a try. People will definitely join along with this energetic song. It details a few things we'd love to do in the same situation. Who wouldn't want to key someone's car after finding infidelity?
