Celebrate May 4th With The Most Memorable Lines in Star Wars History

The film industry has seen many movie franchises throughout its history but none seem to have quite the following like the Star Wars franchise (check out the 501st Legion). Started by director George Lucas in 1977 with "Star Wars Ep. IV: A New Hope," the Star Wars universe evolved into a cultural phenomenon that continues today (here is currently an untitled movie set for release in late 2027). The release of the first trilogy set off everything from museum installations to action figures. With all this fanfare, it's no wonder we are familiar with the most memorable lines in Star Wars history.

To date, there have been 12 official Star Wars films (and nine TV series). According to The Numbers, a site that provides financial analysis on movies, five of these films have topped $1 billion in worldwide box office revenue – "The Phantom Menace"(1999), "The Force Awakens" (2015) which broke records for highest-grossing opening weekend and the fastest film to gross $1 billion, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" (2016), "The Last Jedi" (2017), and "The Rise of Skywalker" (2019).

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of it's theatrical release, The Revenge of the Sith relaunched in theaters in April, 2025. While the film only ran for one week, the run generated over $50 million world wide, pushing the total box office revenue for the film to $904 million, inching closer to the elite club of $1b blockbusters. In doing so, it would join other Star Wars movies like The Phantom Menace, and The Force Awakens.

This post was updated on May 2nd to incorporate data from the re-release for The Revenge Of The Sith
