The world has always been filled with incredible wonders and cultural artifacts, ancient marvels that had great historical significance like the seven wonders of the ancient world of which only one is still in existence – the Great Pyramids of Giza. While these were destroyed by natural disasters, many other priceless cultural artifacts have sadly been lost to war.

Cultural sites and the artifacts they hold are often inadvertently destroyed during bombings, a tragic consequence of war, yet it is also common for these symbols and heritage sites to be targeted. During WWII, Hitler decided that the former Kingdom of Yugoslavia should not exist as a state and ordered the destruction of The National Library of Serbia in 1941.
