25 Ancient Artifacts Forever Lost to Time

Throughout history, the world has seen extraordinary wonders and cultural treasures, from the legendary Seven Wonders of the Ancient World to priceless works housed in great libraries and museums. Of those ancient marvels, only the Great Pyramids of Giza remain standing, while others were lost to natural disasters, conflict, or deliberate destruction.

In times of war, cultural sites are often damaged unintentionally during bombings, but just as often they are targeted directly. A stark example came in 1941, when Hitler ordered the destruction of the National Library of Serbia, erasing centuries of knowledge and heritage.
