If you hear mention of the term "the Mafia," images of Don Corleone and "The Godfather" may conjure in your mind. This movie series painted an idyllic image of organized crime, otherwise known as the mafia, with Marlon Brando's gruff voice, iconic quotes, and action scenes that keep you on the edge of your seats.

However, some may give no extra thought to who inspired famous fictional Mafia bosses like Don Corleone or Tony Soprano. Mob-based shows and movies draw creative inspiration from Mafia figures such as Carlo Gambino, Joe Profaci, and Frank Costello.
