Seafood Choices You Should Avoid

While fish is considered among the healthiest foods you can eat, not all fish is healthy for you. Many types of seafood contain various contaminants, most commonly elevated levels of mercury. This highly toxic metal can significantly affect neurological health, particularly in children and fetuses, and raises the risk of high blood pressure and heart attacks.

There are also environmental and ethical reasons to avoid eating some fish. Many species are overfished, sometimes illegally, to the point where they are threatened with extinction.Farmed fish can also cause environmental problems, as they can escape into the surrounding environment where they interbreed with or compete for food with wild species.

How can you determine which fish are safe to eat, especially in today's confusing climate?
