Ranking America’s Most Popular Hunting Destinations, State By State

Millions of Americans head into the wilderness each and every year to hunt, comprising a little over 40% of the total population. In fact, the number of licensed hunters in the U.S. has recently increased, with over 15.9 million individuals registering in 2024, a statistic that's up by nearly 800,000 from statistics gathered in 2018.

When it comes to being a successful hunter, knowing the best states and locations to hunt is key. Prime hunting destinations offer plentiful game, easy access to public land, and generous non-resident permitting policies to bring in out-of-state hunters. The general appeal of America's top hunting states is understandable, as these locations have so much more to offer beyond fantastic game.

24/7 Tempo brings you some of the best hunting locations in the U.S., using data from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Deer Association, and the U.S. Geological Survey. Rankings were determined by the number of out-of-state hunting licenses recently issued, along with public land area percentages and hunting statistics. Let's dive into these locations now.
