17 Restaurant Chains That Aren’t What They Used to Be

Eating out once felt like an easy bargain. For a reasonable price, customers could count on quick service, familiar portions, dependable favorites, and the relief of not having to cook. That tradeoff has become harder to justify as restaurant bills climb and the experience becomes less consistent.

Across many major chains, diners are voicing the same complaints: smaller portions, higher prices, longer waits, and orders that no longer match what they remember. A brand can survive an occasional bad meal, but repeated disappointments eventually change how customers feel about a place they once visited without hesitation.

Using recent customer-satisfaction data and recurring diner complaints, we looked at 17 restaurant chains that appear to have lost ground. We also included practical ways to improve the experience, from choosing the right time to order to knowing which menu items travel well, which promotions still offer value, and which choices tend to leave customers disappointed.
