8 Restaurant Chains That Aren’t Worth the Hype and Where to Eat Instead

Restaurant chains make eating out easy. You generally know what kind of menu you are getting, what the atmosphere will be like, and roughly how much damage dinner is going to do to your wallet. There is a reason the biggest names have restaurants all over the country. Familiarity works.

But familiar does not always mean it is the best place to spend your money. Some chains have competitors serving similar food with a more interesting menu, better value, or simply a stronger reason to choose them over the dozen other restaurants sitting along the same commercial strip.

Calling any restaurant overrated is subjective, of course. Plenty of people have a favorite order at every chain on this list. But after looking at their current menus and what their competitors are offering, these eight popular chains all have alternatives worth considering the next time you are deciding where to eat.
