The United States has always been at the forefront of military technology and is consistently considered the top global military power. But that power comes at a considerable cost. According to the White House's Office of Management and Budget, the U.S. Department of Defense had an $825 billion budget for the 2024 fiscal year, a $26.7 billion increase from the 2023 fiscal year. The 2025 fiscal year budget is on track to increase yet again.

A big portion of the budget is allotted to the people of the armed forces and civilian military workers. However, a substantial portion goes towards military operations, which include technological advancements, infrastructure, and equipment. The DOD states it is their mission to provide military forces needed to deter war and protect the country's security. To do this properly, certain specific components are necessary.

To find the military technological marvels with hefty price tags, 24/7 Tempo scoured the internet for the most top-secret information. We looked into various sources, including the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services and the Government Accountability Office, and information from Air Force experts. We have compiled what we think is the most comprehensive list of costly but vital military equipment. (Check out powerful weapons used in these military strategies that changed the course of history.)
