There are two accepted definitions for the term "outlaw motorcycle club": The American Motorcycle Association (AMA) defines one as "any motorcycle club which is not sanctioned by the AMA and does not adhere to its rules. In this definition, criminal behavior is not a necessary part of being an "outlaw."

Rather, in this version of the term, the "law" that the club is out of is that of the AMA, which is not a legal body and cannot prosecute you simply for not being a member. However, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and many other legal bodies often define "outlaw motorcycle clubs" as "organizations whose members use their motorcycle clubs as conduits for criminal enterprises." Under this definition, there is a necessary prerequisite of criminal behavior to be considered an outlaw.

However, most members of outlaw motorcycle clubs have no serious criminal records. For them, the word "outlaw" is disregard for nonlegal governing bodies of groups like the AMA rather than the government. Outlaw clubs are often prominent charity givers and are frequently present at various philanthropic events such as charity toy runs. However, many detractors have claimed that outlaw motorcycle clubs are using their charity rides to garner sympathy and mask the criminal nature of their organizations. In March of this year, several outlaw clubs were raided by police, and weapons were discovered in their clubhouses. Let's look at the world's biggest outlaw motorcycle clubs.

To determine this list's population, we sourced information from the DOJ and other legal bodies regarding membership and global influence of outlaw motorcycle clubs. Some on this list were chosen because they have a large number of members, while other entries were chosen because the club has a large scale of influence on the community.
