Strange Laws You Didn’t Know Were Illegal in Your State

Most Americans assume they have a pretty good understanding of what’s legal and what isn’t—but some laws on the books are far stranger than you’d expect. Across the country, outdated, unusual, and downright bizarre rules still exist, and many people have no idea they could technically be breaking them.

From odd restrictions on everyday behavior to laws that seem frozen in time, each state has its own collection of legal quirks. While many of these rules are rarely enforced, they’re still officially on the books—and they can be surprisingly specific.
