29 Famous People Whose Lives Were Cut Short by Alcoholism
Alcohol addiction has affected people from every background, including some of the most well-known public figures in history. Despite fame, success, and influence, many struggled with alcoholism, a condition that often develops gradually and can be difficult to recognize until it has already taken a serious toll. Because alcohol is so deeply embedded in social life, its risks are sometimes underestimated, even as research continues to highlight its long-term health impacts.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), excessive alcohol use is linked to more than 178,000 deaths each year in the United States, with millions more affected worldwide. In this 24/7 Tempo slideshow, we look at 29 famous individuals whose lives were impacted by alcoholism, including those whose lives were ultimately cut short. Their stories serve as a reminder of how widespread and complex addiction can be, and why awareness and early intervention remain so important.
