22 Examples of Why the 1960s Had the Best Fashion

Fashion comes in many forms, and it can be just as diverse as the people who love it. Many people would argue that the 1960s was the best decade for fashion. The 1970s are remembered for jumpsuits, platform shoes, aviator glasses, and crop tops. The 1980s brought neon colors, shoulder pads, leg warmers, and an overwhelming amount of spandex. In the 1990s, biker shorts, jean jackets, low-rise jeans, and combat boots dominated the scene. Then came the early 2000s, filled with bedazzled handbags, trucker hats, belly chains, and cargo pants.

We've gathered some strong evidence that the 1960s had better fashion than any other era. While the current decade may someday rise to the top, for now, it's worth looking back at the 1960s with a sense of admiration and appreciation.

Some of the most iconic celebrities of the 1960s helped define the style of the time. Sharon Tate, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Twiggy, and Jackie Kennedy all played major roles in shaping fashion trends. These stars were often photographed in eye-catching outfits nearly every time they stepped outside. Alongside their influence, there was a lot more happening in the 1960s that helped make it such a memorable decade in fashion.
