We've all had our favorite movies or television shows and depending on when we were born, they most likely differ significantly. Those born in the 1960s are probably going to have nostalgic feelings about films like "Bye Bye Birdie" (1963), "Mary Poppins" (1964), "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, (1968), (all starring Dick Van Dyke, who recently made history as the oldest Emmy Award winner for his work in the soap opera "Days of Our Lives") than those of us born in different eras.

But for those who grew up in the 1990s, there is nothing better than the top cult classic films that shaped our lives. Many of these films were so influential and instrumental that there is even a growing number of people who believe this decade was the peak of pop culture. Highly prominent movies and TV shows during that time, from "Titanic" to "Seinfeld," gained fame worldwide. But it's not these programs, on both the Silver Screen and the small screen, that are what we're referencing, rather it's the top cult classic films of the 90s.

According to the dictionary, a cult classic is defined as something such as a film or book that is considered to be one of the best of its kind by a small group of people. It is a movie, show, or form of entertainment that might not have performed that well when it was first released but over time, has become very popular with a growing group of people. Cult classics are films that people not only enjoy but are almost idolized by the media and often form fan groups or have repeat viewings.

To determine the top cult classic films of the 90s, we at 24/7 Tempo consulted many online sources. We looked at the Internet Movie Database, The Guardian, and ComicBook.com, among others. While there is an almost endless list, we consider these to be some of the best of the decade. (These are the best but forgotten movies of the 1990s.)
