These Brilliant Women Made Scientific History, But You Probably Never Learned About Them

For centuries, the story of scientific discovery has been told through the lens of male achievement. Yet behind many groundbreaking advances were women who ultimately reshaped our understanding of the world, often without any credit. Contrary to what many of us were taught, these women broke through systemic barriers to change science as we know it.

Some of these figures have thankfully become household names. Others remained obscured in the shadows of history, their contributions only now coming to light. These women battled so much throughout their lives and in pursuit of their work that now feels like the perfect time to honor them.

24/7 Tempo brings you some of the most important women in scientific history, using research from Smithsonian Magazine, NASA, the Nobel Prize Foundation, and the National Women's History Museum. These scientific contributions deserve recognition, and here are the women behind them.
