These Are the TV Shows Fans Petitioned to Change
There are few things more frustrating than when your show is canceled on a cliffhanger. Sometimes, a show can even have great ratings, and high viewership, and still meet with the axe.
Not all fans, though, sit and take this. Plenty of fans have attempted to bring back their favorites or make changes to the series they watch with online petitions or letter-writing campaigns. Unfortunately, not all are successful. Interested in learning which ones succeeded and which ones are still waiting? Click through the slideshow to read about the TV shows fans petitioned to change.
"Game of Thrones"
"Game of Thrones" fans were disappointed by season 8 because of its strange writing. They were so upset by it that they launched a petition on the Change website titled Remake Game of Thrones Season 8 with competent writers. As of May 2025, the petition sits at over 1.8 million verified signatures. Six years later, nothing came of this petition. It actually continues to get signatures.
"Star Trek: The Original Series"
Technically, "Star Trek: The Original Series" didn't receive a petition but was saved by a letter campaign and loyal fans. "Save Star Trek" in the late 1960s was one of the biggest fan campaigns to save a show, and it worked! NBC was in talks of canceling the show, so the Trimbles, huge fans of the show, urged other fans to write letters to NBC.
"Bridgerton"
"Bridgerton" season 3 did incredibly well – so well that fans wanted more, especially when they heard that many of the scenes between the love interests were cut. Wanting more, fans created a petition to restore the deleted scenes. So far, nothing has come from this petition, but it's received more than 75,000 signatures.
"Santa Clarita Diet"
"Santa Clarita Diet" ended on a cliffhanger, leaving fans brokenhearted and angry. Almost immediately, multiple petitions started urging Netflix to renew the show so they could get a final season or episode. This hasn't happened just yet even with 240,000 signatures.
"Cagney & Lacey"
"Cagney & Lacey" was an incredibly popular police show featuring female police detectives. The show was quickly canceled after only six episodes because of low viewership and mixed reviews. The cancellation didn't last long. Even when the show was relaunched, views were down until a letter campaign and CBS switching their time slot saved it.
"Found"
Another show that TV shows petitioned to change was "Found," a procedural drama that only ran for about two seasons. Fans didn't like this and quickly started petitions on the Change website. While there are multiple open petitions, the largest one has over 4,000 signatures.
"9-1-1"
While most petitions start because a show is canceled, this is not the case for "9-1-1." Spoilers ahead! During a season finale, a very important character in "9-1-1," Bobby, was killed off. This infuriated and saddened fans as the death felt random and unnecessary. Bring back Bobby Nash has collected about 13,000 signatures.
"Futurama"
"Futurama" was canceled for quite a few years. A petition in 2020 may have changed this along with fans rewatching old episodes and buying merchandise. Although initially canceled in 2013, "Futurama" was brought back in 2023. Not everyone liked this decision. There is also a petition on the Change website urging people to sign so the show ends.
"NCIS: Hawaii"
Fans of "NCIS: Hawaii" are sad knowing the series was canceled. Although not as popular as other NCIS series, this one holds a special place in people's hearts for its location and stories. The Save NCIS: Hawaii on CBS petition currently has over 44,000 verified signatures. No new updates on the series have been published.
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine"
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" almost saw its end a lot earlier than expected, but fans banded together and brought it back with support, social media, and petitions. Although canceled by FOX, the network NBC quickly picked it up. "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" ran for eight seasons.
"Firefly"
"Firefly" was a short-lived, but interesting Western space drama. It only ran for one season in 2002 (14 episodes), and yet its cult following continues to try and petition it to come back. No news has come of these petitions.
"Community"
Like other shows on this slideshow, "Community" was canceled after its fifth season, although petitions and support from fans allowed the series to get picked up by another network for one final season. "Community" continues to have a cult following.
"Manifest"
"Manifest" was canceled after 3 seasons by NBC with a large cliffhanger. However, viewership increased when the show was added to Netflix, prompting them to renew the series for a fourth and final season. Many petitions were created after its initial cancellation, including one that received 95,000 signatures.
