Fictional villains are often among the most memorable characters in television history. Their wicked schemes and unrelenting cruelty make them easy targets for audience hatred, while their inevitable downfalls are eagerly anticipated. These antagonists masterfully embody evil, shaping the tone and tension of their series so completely that it's difficult to imagine the shows without them.
To identify the most despicable TV villains ever to appear on the small screen, 24/7 Tempo reviewed data from IMDb, Amazon's online movie and TV database; Rotten Tomatoes, the popular review aggregator; and Ranker, a crowd-sourced ranking site. The list focuses on criminals and other central antagonists who played major roles across a range of television genres.
