Anyone who spent Saturday nights cruising the high seas with Princess ships and Captain Stubing and the gang, take a knee. We regret to inform you that Jack Jones, who sang the beloved and world-renowned theme song for “The Love Boat,” has passed away.
While his earliest days in the music industry were recording demos for Don Raye, Jones first found his own fame in the 1960s as a singer who dominated the easy-listening genre. He topped the Billboard chart with three No. 1 singles: “The Race is On,” “The Impossible Dream,” and “Lady.” Additional accolades include two Grammy Awards and five nominations, and several silver screen credits, including Airplane II: The Sequel and American Hustle. His final album was released in 2021 and was called Every Other Day I Have the Blues.
Jack Jones battled leukemia for two years before his passing on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, in Rancho Mirage, CA. He was 86 years old.
