In many professions, the phrase "It's a matter of who you know, not what you know" is often an accurate depiction of how the hiring process works. Hollywood is no exception. A notoriously difficult business to break into, it is a field that requires talent, hard work, and networking. Even with all three of these, it can still be hard to be a working actor. When that big break does come, and if a film is hugely successful, it can catapult those involved to star status. But not every film has the intended effect. It can often be quite the opposite. These are the films that almost ended these actors' careers.

When an actor lands that dream role, it can lead to bigger roles, allowing them to pick what they would like to appear in. While each new role increases their presence, it also comes with some risk. Choosing the wrong film can be detrimental to an actor's career. In the worst-case scenario, a film could be so negatively received that it turns an actor into box office poison and effectively ends their film career. These films all did irreversible damage to these stars' careers. But Hollywood loves a comeback. Even though some of these careers never recovered, there's no counting out a big movie star comeback like these.
