We often take for granted the things we have today. Technology ranging from cell phones and televisions to the internet has made many of our lives better, giving us ease and access to things we didn't once have. If we compare our lives now to how people lived more than a century ago, it's incredible to see how far our society has come, and how many advancements we've made. This is quite evident in our photographic images.

Children today have become accustomed to having various electronics, from smartphones and tablets to headphones and game systems, which is completely unlike how children in the past used to spend their time. The outdoors was where they spent most of their time, playing in the neighborhood, and inventing new ways to entertain themselves. However, they didn't get to spend all their time having fun. Many didn't have the luxury of leisurely time and were required to help around the house. Child labor laws today were nonexistent then and many children had to work alongside their families.

24/7 Tempo put together a collection of colorized photos that paint a different picture of childhood a century ago. We also consulted sources such as Readers Digest, the Library of Congress, and PBS to determine what life was like during this period, and to bring the images to life we added color to reveal what childhood in history was really like. (Check out 15 photos that show what life was like for women 100 years ago.)
