Filmmaking is an art form, and the best films bring the story of the main characters to life. When an audience watches a well-made film, they get transported to the world on screen and lose themselves as they follow the ups and downs and the ins and outs of the story. But a great film doesn't just rely on excellent writing and creative hooks it needs actors and actresses to bring the whole vision to life. Skilled actors and actresses know how to dive into character and shed themselves while they transform into their onscreen personas. Acting is part skill and part talent, but the best actors know how to not just play the character but truly become the character.

Some of the best actors and actresses in Hollywood today push themselves to morph into characters. Some use prosthetics, like Nicole Kidman in "The Hours," where she wore a prosthetic nose to become writer Virginia Wolf. Other actors change their bodies through diet and exercise to embody their character, like Chris Pratt in "Guardians of the Galaxy," where he shed his beer belly for a chiseled physique. And some actors find themselves in the lucky spot of needing to gain weight to get into character like Renee Zellweger in "Bridget Jones' Diary," where she packed on thirty pounds to play her heavy-set alter ego. These actors all have one thing in common: they went to extremes for a role, and they were right to do it because it contributed to the overall success of the films.
