91% of Audiences Loved This R-Rated Movie, But Only 19% of Critics Were Impressed

When you're looking for a movie to watch, do you go by critical reviews or what audiences think? Depending on the movie, this could be wildly different. While we can't explain the reason for the discrepancy, we can speculate. Perhaps it's because audience members choose movies based on entertainment, while critics judge movies for things such as artistic competence and originality. Whatever the reason, although there are some movies where audiences and critics agree (The Dark Night has 94% on Rotten Tomatoes for both critics and audiences), we've rounded up a list where the gap is much wider.

To determine the R-rated movies loved by audiences and hated by critics, 24/7 Tempo reviewed data on audience and critic reception from Rotten Tomatoes. R-rated movies were ranked based on the percentage-point difference between the Rotten Tomatoes audience score and the Tomatometer score. Only films with at least 10 critics' reviews, 10,000 audience reviews, audience scores of at least 75%, and Tomatometer scores below 60% were considered. Cast information came from IMDb. Here is a list of the R-rated movies audiences loved but critics hated:
