Many of us have a hard time deciding where to travel. The world is filled with such an incredible amount of beautiful and awe-inspiring places that it can be overwhelming to pick one location for our next trip. With 195 countries to choose from, and each having thousands of sites to visit, we often have to use specific criteria to narrow down our selections. What we should never have to include in that search criteria is travel destinations on the brink of extinction.

When you know certain spots might not be available for much longer, where you choose to go this year might be different from where you once thought you'd go. From climate change and rising sea levels to erosion or the thoughtless actions of people, beloved attractions are in danger of disappearing.

To compile a list of travel destinations on the brink of extinction, 24/7 Tempo consulted numerous sources, including travel guides such as Rough Guides. Then, these destinations were cross-checked with reputable sources such as National Geographic, scientific papers, and National Parks websites. From seas and parks to cities and islands, these areas should be on your to-do list before it's too late.
