Thrifting in St. Louis: Save Money and Shop Sustainably

Also known as the Gateway to the West, St. Louis is a vibrant city with great food, music, and the iconic Gateway Arch. It’s less than four hours east of Kansas City, great for a day trip with friends. St. Louis also has a few unique thrift and consignment shops that make shopping for your next fun find an unforgettable adventure.

We tracked down 10 of the best thrift shops in St. Louis, including the Green Shag Market to Max and Moo’s Thrift. Thrifting in St. Louis can take you to areas you may not visit otherwise, and maybe visiting that new thrift shop will lead you to a new restaurant. Enjoy your thrift shopping! Twice Blessed Resale Shop

The Twice Blessed Resale Shop in St. Louis and Our Lady’s Inn Maternity Homes are partners in the same mission: to support pregnant women in need. Women who live in a Maternity home can earn job training by working at the shop.

The store offers a variety of women’s and children’s clothing, accessories, and shoes. Twice Blessed sells name-brand donated items at thrift store prices, and accepts donations of in-season used or new items during regular store hours.

St. Vincent De Paul Society

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul has nine locations around the city and an online store where you can shop from the convenience of your phone. All thrift store proceeds go back to St. Vincent de Paul and fund their charitable programs. This organization is well-known for helping those in need and is one of the oldest charities in St. Louis.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society accepts donations through donation bins, or you can schedule a pickup online.

Max and Moo’s Thrift

You can’t go wrong with Max and Moo’s Thrift. It’s a newer store, only having opened in 2022. But the wonderful selection of name-brand clothing, furniture, and home decor. Even though the set up may remind you of a boutique consignment store, Max and Moo’s does not accept items for consignment. If you’re interested in donating, contact the store directly. This boutique thrift store donates to the non-profit Angels Frontline with every purchase.

NCJW The Resale Shop

The Resale Shop donates all proceeds to the National Council of Jewish Women for charities local to St. Louis. This store sells a variety of gently used items, including clothing, jewelry, accessories, and home decor, and accepts donations Monday through Saturday. Upscale Resale STL is a thrift shop with a large selection of high-end clothing, accessories, and furniture at discount prices. The shop receives new items each week and offers unique deals like their brown bag sale, where you can purchase whatever you can fit in a bag for $25. They are also known for having a large selection of men’s items.

The shop accepts donation drop-offs during their store hours. If you have questions about what they’ll accept, reach out to the store directly.

Mesa Home

Mesa Home’s vintage vibe and 1970s through 1990s clothing give it an adorable boutique atmosphere. The store also offers handmade items from local vendors throughout St. Louis. Unfortunately, they’re only open on Saturdays, but we think that adds to the intrigue and interest.

May’s Place

May’s Place in St. Louis focuses on high-quality, stylish vintage finds. They offer sustainable shopping with fashionable items for locals. The prices are a little higher because May’s Place focuses on quality. However, you’ll still save money on gently used clothing, jewelry, accessories, and gifts.

They source unique vintage items from around the world but are also interested in purchasing from locals. If you have a few pieces you’d like to send on to the next owner, contact them for more information.

Sage Style

For an upscale resale experience, Sage Style has you covered. The owner sources vintage designer brands like Michael Kors and Louis Vuitton, and then helps you find the perfect items. Yelpers say that its like having a personal shopper that knows exactly what you want. There is always something new and a portion of the proceeds support the Humane Society, women’s shelters and Caritas for displaced children.

The Green Shag Market

If you’re looking to find several unique items all in one place, don’t miss The Green Shag Market. This marketplace operates more like a vintage and antique mall, working with multiple vendors to provide items in all styles. The Green Shag Market has also been listed as the “Best Thrift Store” in the state of Missouri by Apartment Therapy. Be sure to check their store hours, however, as they are only open on weekends.

While most thrift shops accept donations, this marketplace works directly with vendors. You can reach out to them to inquire about booth rentals.

Miriam Switching Post

Supporting the variable tuition offered by the Miriam School and Learning Center, the Miriam Switching Post is a focuses on furniture, antiques, and home décor. The variable tuition program directly benefits lower income families so their kids can also attend the school.

For donations, contact the shop during store hours. They also offer free pick-up for larger items.
