Charlotte, NC is an exciting city with plenty to do. Sports lovers can attend a Charlotte Hornets game or visit the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Charlotte also features plenty of outdoor wonders and attractions for history enthusiasts. While Charlotte is a fantastic spot for grabbing burgers, BBQ, and seafood, you won't find any Michelin-Star restaurants in the city. That's because the Michelin Guide doesn't currently cover North Carolina.

Still, earning a Michel Star isn't the only way a restaurant can distinguish itself. Local magazines, larger publications, and foundations can also give out reviews and honors to the restaurant community. One of these foundations is the James Beard Foundation. These awards honor chefs, restaurants, and restauranteurs for the mission, values, personality, and skill level of a restaurant. There are several categories of the James Beard Award, including Best Chef and Outstanding Hospitality.

There are quite a few restaurants in Charlotte that have been nominated at several different levels of the James Beard Awards. Even making it to the semi-final round for James Beard is noteworthy in the culinary awards circuit. These six award-winning restaurants in Charlotte are well worth a visit. They may even someday earn a Michelin Star.
