Sometimes you walk into a restaurant and your mouth begins to water; you just know you're about to experience the extraordinary. That's why Michelin Stars exist, and while Indianapolis is chock full of outstanding restaurants, the Michelin Guide has yet to enter the market (though it is in nearby Chicago).

With that in mind, we've rounded up a few restaurants in Indy that we think are worthy of at least one Michelin Star. We're basing this on the number of 4- and 5-star reviews left by ordinary diners on sites such as Yelp.

The food scene in Indianapolis is a fast-paced and ever-changing landscape with many opportunities for delicious and varied cuisine, and just because Michelin hasn't visited, that doesn't mean Indianapolis restaurants haven't gotten some recognition. The prestigious James Beard Awards have doled out nominations to several Indy establishments, and just making it to the James Beard Award semifinals is a feat. We were sure to include some of those restaurants on this list.

Here are the Indianapolis restaurants that are worthy of a Michelin Star. (And here are 20 things Indiana is known for.)
