"The Little Prince"
The death scene in "The Little Prince" is subtle and quiet and yet packs a powerful punch. At the end of the film, it's hinted that the Aviator has passed away through a last scene where the Little Prince and the Aviator are together.
"Instructions Not Included"
It's hard not to cry when watching "Instructions Not Included." The film leads you to believe that the father, Valentin, is sick and the treatments aren't working. The brutal truth isn't revealed until the end – the one who is sick is actually the daughter he raised alone. She peacefully passes away at the beach with her mother and father.
"Little Women"
Realizing Beth passed away in "Little Women" is gut-wrenching. As soon as the camera pans to the table where she usually sits, and there is nothing but an empty spot and a grieving mother, the waterworks start.
"The Princess Bride"
Not all deaths in films are sad. Some are super satisfying, like the one in "The Princess Bride." Seeing Inigo Montoya get revenge on the man who killed his father is one of the best parts of the film. He brilliantly repeats the line, "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."
"Marley And Me"
Pets don't live forever, which honestly feels like a crime. One of the greatest and most emotional death scenes in movies is the passing of Marley at the end of "Marley And Me."
"My Girl"
There was no way we weren't mentioning the death and funeral scene of "My Girl." It truly is one of the saddest deaths in movie history. Vada loses her best friend to a bee allergy after a fight and at the funeral, she loses her composure because he isn't wearing his glasses.
"Jurassic Park"
Moving away from the more emotional deaths, we have the satisfying ending of Dennis Nedry in "Jurassic Park." He sabotaged the park, leading to injuries and chaos, and stole dinosaur embryos. Was anyone really rooting for him?
"Bridge to Terabithia"
Back to another heartbreaking death scene, we have "Bridge to Terabithia." This is another film about losing friends during childhood. In the movie, Leslie tries to swing on the rope to get to Terabithia and falls into the creek, hitting her head and dying.
"The Wizard Of Oz"
Who knew it would only take a little bit of water to kill the Wicked Witch of the West? This is exactly how she meets her fate in "The Wizard of Oz," all while crying out, "I'm melting!"
"The Hunger Games"
Any death scene with a child is sad. When Rue dies in "The Hunger Games," the scene is unforgettable. It sparks a revolution and anger throughout District 11.
"Mockingjay"
A lot of characters lost their lives in The Hunger Games series. Other than Rue, another heartbreaking death was Prim's in "Mockingjay." During this final film in the franchise, a Capitol ship drops a bomb on children. Prim is killed by the second bomb as she rushes to help as a medic.
"Titanic"
Losing anyone is hard, but especially your lover during a tragedy like the sinking of the Titanic. This death is super popular. Even those who've never seen the film, know of the iconic scene where Jack is holding onto the floating debris but there isn't enough room for the both of them. He dies of hypothermia.
"Up"
"Up" wasted no time revealing the most gut-wrenching death scene. In the first few minutes of the film, we get to see Carl and Ellie meet, fall in love, and live a beautiful life together. Ellie passes away, leaving Carl alone to become a bitter old man. It's so sad watching as his energy changes when she passes away.
"Coco"
"Coco" is a movie filled with vibrant themes of family and connection. It is also a movie about grief. One of the most touching moments of the film is when Chicharrón, a character in the Land of the Dead, is forgotten and fades away after Hector plays him a last song.
"The Lion King"
Another unforgettable and incredible death scene in movies was the passing of Mufasa. He is betrayed by his brother Scar and trampled to death after saving his son Simba.
"Brokeback Mountain"
Last but not least is the tragic love story in "Brokeback Mountain." Jack and Ennis are star-crossed lovers. After a few months of being apart, Jack dies in an accident. To get closure and fulfill his last wishes, Ennis visits Jack's parents.
