Record-Breaking No. 1 Hits That Ruled the Billboard Hot 100

Record-Breaking No. 1 Hits That Ruled the Billboard Hot 100

The Billboard Hot 100 was created by journalists in 1958 who wanted to track the popularity of music singles and albums, offering insight into consumer trends. The Hot 100 is a billboard chart that tracks the most popular singles each week, with a handful of songs achieving such massive popularity that they remain on the Billboard charts for weeks.

To determine the record-breaking No. 1 hits that ruled the Billboard Hot 100, 24/7 Tempo reviewed historical data on chart performance from the Billboard Hot 100. Songs were ranked by the total number of weeks they held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts. Chart data is current through June 8, 2024 and this post was recently updated May 27, 2025.
