Fashion Trends That Stylists Beg You to Avoid This Fall
Fashion trends come and go, although it can be confusing to tell what exactly is 'in' and 'out.' Truthfully, there are no hard rules or lines to follow on what to wear or what not to wear. Still, fashion experts and stylists have opinions that can change what trends and what people skip. The same goes for celebrities. It isn't uncommon for a type of clothing to trend when a big musician drops a new album or look.
While we'll be discussing fashion trends in this slideshow, it's important to note that it's okay not to follow them. Although stylists are experts in their field, your style is yours. Always dress in what makes you comfortable and happy.
For this slideshow, 24/7 Tempo consulted various entertainment and style sources online, specifically looking at fall trends. Click through the slideshow for fashion trends stylists are begging you to avoid this fall.
Capes
Some stylists and fashion lovers have noticed that capes are all the rage in fashion shows in 2025, but they don't scream fall. They also aren't the easiest things to find or style because of their large size. So, what should you wear instead? Maybe stick to a regular and comfortable coat that can be styled with any type of pants and accessories.
Hot Pink
Although hot pink is such a cute and trendy color, it doesn't exactly scream 'fall.' One stylist, Elisabeth Kassab, told Business Insider that she recommends sticking to more traditional autumn fall colors like brown, green, and burnt orange.
Long Denim Skirts
Denim is almost always in, but apparently not as a long skirt. While this was a popular piece in late 2024 to early 2025, some stylists and fashion enthusiasts are saying to skip it. Instead, try a long, flowy skirt that hits the floor or a pencil skirt.
Cowboy Boots
This trend is confusing. Some stylists say it's not gonna be 'in' for fall of 2025, while others are hyping up Western-style clothing, including fashionable cowboy boots. Honestly, wear what makes you happy!
Furry Slippers
Furry slippers are comfortable and a perfect way to beat the cold and relax at home, but in public? Stylists and fashion lovers say to ignore this growing trend and stick to using them at home.
Backpacks as Purses
This is another trend that has conflicting opinions, like cowboy boots. To a few, backpacks as purses are out for fall.
Ripped Denim
Ripped denim is not 'in' for fall, according to a few stylists online. It's not a style that looks like it belongs during this season and can leave you cold as air enters the rips. Apparently, relaxed trousers as a pop of color are 'in.'
Thin Scarves
Thin scarves won't keep you warm during winter or fall, especially if you live in a colder area. However, according to stylists, they are also no longer in fashion. Instead, larger knit or fabric scarves are 'in' (and they keep you protected!).
Skinny Jeans
Skinny jeans are a big debate amongst generations. Millennials love them, while Gen Z prefers a baggier fit. According to a few stylists online, this trend is out for fall. Instead, they recommend a pant with a wide leg that is fitted towards the top.
