Homeowners and condominium association fees can be quite an expense. In some cases, experts might even suggest pre-budgeting for your HOA or condo association fee before you even purchase the property to ensure you've not overstretched your means by purchasing a home in a certain area. There are some benefits to being in an HOA or condo association. Properties that are within an HOA or condo association's jurisdiction tend to be better maintained and often have higher values when sold than those not under oversight. However, the fees can scare a lot of potential homeowners away from certain areas. Here's what you can expect to pay in HOA fees depending on your region.

The American Housing Survey publishes a yearly report on the state of housing in the United States.
