Often thought of as the king of the Spaghetti Western, it's hard to picture a Western or a tough guy role without Clint Eastwood coming to mind. The two genres have rewarded him with a life-long career that is still enduring today, entertaining audiences with his bravado and deadpan delivery that made him a star. But it wasn't a path that he happened upon right away.

In his early 20s, he was drafted by the U.S. Army and spent two years at the Fort Ord Military Reservation. Afterward, he decided to enroll at LA City College, but after his interest in acting took center stage, he dropped out to pursue the craft. Uncredited roles in B-rated films like "Revenge of the Creature" (1955) and "Tarantula" (1955) helped him to cut his teeth in the industry but to ensure a steady income, he took odd jobs along the way.

Three years later, Eastwood was cast in the 1959 television show "Rawhide" where he played the role of Rowdy Yates for eight seasons. Although he saw some success during his first decade as an actor, it wasn't until he starred as the Man with No Name in the 1964 film "A Fistful of Dollars" that his career took off, and garnered him international fame. This was the first film of a trilogy and he went on to star in "For a Few Dollars More (1965) and "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" (1966).

By the late 60s, Eastwood had a sting of several successful films under his belt, including "Hang Them High" (1968) and "Coogan's Bluff" (1968). He expertly embodied characters with a tough exterior, but always managed to have fun with the roles, infusing them with a bit of unconventional humor. It's this spin that makes his quotes so memorable.
