As a powerful storytelling medium, movies have always captivated audiences. The cinema allows us to escape from our daily routines and transport us, however briefly, to an alternate universe where we can live through the characters' lives onscreen. Some movies can be hugely impactful, where even the lines become part of our everyday jargon. Many of these classic quotes from iconic 1970s movies are perfect examples.
Films of the '70s were radically different than the previous decade. Thanks to new technological developments in technology and editing, films had a bit more realism, and the themes of the times explored more gritty topics. Many restrictions on films seen previously, like violence, language, and adult content, were eased up, allowing directors more freedom to explore topics like never before.
To compile this list of classic quotes from iconic 1970s movies, 247 Tempo reviewed opinion-based sites like Reddit. Fandom, and IMDb, a comprehensive site that details stats on all things movie, including but not limited to a movie's characters, actors, and directors. (For lesser-known '70s movies, check out the Most Underrated Movies of the '70s).
