Songs that once felt timeless are quickly overshadowed by the next big sensation. Yet thanks to streaming platforms, listeners today can rediscover artists who were once household names, including many chart-toppers from the 1960s who have since faded from mainstream memory.
To highlight some of these forgotten stars, 24/7 Tempo analyzed data from Billboard’s Hot 100 chart history and 2023 Wikipedia page views. While these performers may not have achieved the enduring fame of icons like Bob Dylan, The Beatles, or Aretha Franklin, they once produced music that climbed high on the charts and captured the public’s attention.
The ranking was determined by comparing each artist’s Billboard Hot 100 chart score calculated with an inverse point system (100 points for a week at No. 1, 99 for No. 2, and so on, down to 1 point at No. 100) against their average daily Wikipedia page views in 2023.
To qualify, artists had to have at least 10 Hot 100 entries, including one top 10 hit, but fewer than 1,000 daily Wikipedia page views in 2023. Only musicians whose last Hot 100 appearance occurred before 2000 were included in the list.
