TV Catchphrases That Defined Every ’60s Childhood

TV Catchphrases That Defined Every ’60s Childhood

The 1960s was a decade of significant technological innovation. It saw the early stages of the development of computers, the creation of lasers, and integrated circuits (microchips), men were sent to the moon, and the television exploded in popularity, with almost 95% of American homes containing a TV set by the end of the decade.

As television became a staple in homes across America, TV programming became more diverse to appeal to different viewers. It was hugely influenced by the Cold War and the Space Race. Science fiction and the mysteries of the human mind were fertile ground for television programmers. It was also a time when nightly news anchors like Walter Cronkite on CBS and Chet Huntley and David Brinkley on NBC were highly trusted by the public.

To find the TV catchphrases that defined every ’60s childhood, 24/7 Tempo consulted various culture-themed sites such as ClickAmerica, the website Quotecatalog.com, and media sites such as Reader’s Digest, and Internet Movie Database (IMDb) to compile our list.

Many of the popular shows from this era featured memorable quotes that resonated with Baby Boomers and continue to be repeated by them today. (Also See The Best Spy Shows of All Time.)
