20 Things Kids Did Before the Internet That Kids Today Would Never Understand

Before there was a screen in every bedroom, backpack, or back pocket, kids had to work a little harder to entertain themselves. If you were bored, you went outside, knocked on a neighbor’s door, and asked if they could come out. From there, you figured it out. You rode bikes, made up games, wandered the neighborhood, or turned the most random object in the yard into something important.

If nobody was around, you improvised. A cardboard box became a fort. A driveway became a stadium. A stick became a sword, a wand, a fishing pole, or whatever else the afternoon required. There was no algorithm handing you the next thing to watch and no phone to rescue you from boredom. You either found something to do, or you sat there until your imagination finally kicked in.

At the time, none of this felt unusual. It was just childhood. But compared with today, when entertainment is instant and boredom rarely lasts more than a few seconds, the way kids passed the time before the internet can feel like it belonged to another world. Here are 20 things kids did before the internet that would probably baffle kids today.
