These Iconic TV and Film Houses Are Still Tourist Attractions Today
What show or movie house stuck with you? The one where the inside is just as impressive as the outside. The one you daydreamed about living in while watching a soap opera or sitcom.
If you're lucky, it appears on our list! So many iconic movie and TV show houses are real, although most films and shows only used the exterior of the homes. You can even visit a few of them that have been renovated to their glory, making them look like a cinematic masterpiece. There are even a few that allow you to stay a night and live in the magic of your favorites!
So, what iconic TV houses can you visit or at least see from the outside? Click through the slideshow to find out. For this slideshow, 24/7 Tempo consulted a mix of entertainment and real estate sources. We also used official local tourism websites.
The Edith Macefield House
While the Edith Macefield house isn't technically the inspiration behind the film "Up," Pixar did use it for promotion. And there's a good reason why. Edith Macefield did not back down when a large real estate company came to her with an offer to buy her home. Not even $1 million was enough for her to give up her family farmhouse in Seattle. This forced the real estate company to develop around the property, surrounding it. She passed away in her home at 86, completing her dream. Now, the home is owned by Regency Centers. Although you can visit and see it from the outside, you cannot enter the building as it's private property.
The Binford Building
Any "New Girl" fans? Did you know that the apartment from the show actually exists? Well, technically, the show just used the exterior. But still, it's exciting. You can find this apartment in LA under the name The Binford Building.
The House From "A Christmas Story"
Would you stay a night at the "A Christmas Story" house? This 1940 home still stands in Cleveland, Ohio, and serves as a museum and a hotel. Not only does the outside of the home look so much like the film, but the inside, too! The museum is available for a fee Monday through Friday and includes various props and costumes from the beloved Holiday movie.
The "Boy Meets World" House
Although "Boy Meets World" was set in Pennsylvania, the home they used for exterior shots is in California. Although a beautiful home to see, it is a private residence, so keep this in mind if you choose to visit. It's also on a gated lot. So, who owns this home? Although we aren't sure, it has a newer resident. In 2017, the home sold for $1.299 million.
"Sabrina The Teenage Witch" House
Who doesn't remember this '90s gem? Everyone wanted to be like Sabrina and her powers, sassy black cat, and her incredible aunts. One of the best parts of the show was the house, which you can find in New Jersey. However, while the exterior looks about the same, the interior doesn't. As of late 2024, it was being used as a law firm.
"Hocus Pocus" Homes and Sets
Salem, Massachusetts, is worth a visit for many reasons: its history, stunning architecture, and lively festivals. It's also a top spot for films. For instance, many parts of the iconic "Hocus Pocus" were shot in Salem. You can find a guide on the film locations on Salem's tourism website.
"Halloweentown"
Another spooky movie/TV home and experience makes our list. "Halloweentown" was almost entirely filmed in St. Helens, Oregon, which loves to decorate and celebrate the fun Disney films. Walking self-guided tours are encouraged to see famous filming spots, including the town square with a giant pumpkin in the center.
"The Brady Bunch" House
"The Brady Bunch" House looks like any regular home on the outside. Located in California, the house was used for exterior shots for the TV show and was recently bought for a jaw-dropping $3.2 million. Before this, HGTV owned the home and restored it on their show, "A Very Brady Renovation."
The Hockley Motel
Any "Schitt's Creek" fans reading this article? Well, you'll be happy to know that the Rosebud Motel is an actual motel! It's named the Hockley Motel and is located in Toronto, Ontario. Fun fact: the current owner is selling the motel and hopes the next owner will turn it into a "Schitt's Creek" themed hotel. Would you spend a night?
The Bay Harbor Club Condos
Unfortunately, you can't visit Dexter's condo/apartment, but you can catch a peek at its outside. Dexter's home is actually the Bay Harbor Club condos in Miami Beach, Florida.
The "Home Alone" House
Although a cool house to see, very little of the film was made here. Actually, only the exterior and a tiny part of the entrance way were used. Still, how incredible would it be to see the real "Home Alone" house in person? While you can take a look at it from the outside, it's privately own so you won't be able to take a look inside. Even if you did, it probably looks nothing like the movie.
The Twilight Swan House
Airbnb is everywhere. You can stay in small, relaxing studios and luxurious 3-story homes. Did you also know there are actual filming locations for rent on the website? This includes Bella Swan's home from the Twilight franchise. Although the film was set in Washington, the house is in St. Helens, Oregon, like many filming spots for the movie "Halloweentown." The current owners of the home love the Twilight series and picked out decor to match the film as much as possible. Spending a night can feel like being in a movie.
The Cullen House
If we are mentioning Bella's home from "Twilight," we might as well bring up the Cullen house. It's just as iconic for its strangely modern appearance deep in the woods. Although a super cool home and filming location, don't try to visit. It is a private residence with a gate. The new owners prefer being left alone.
"The Goonies" House
"The Goonies" is a treasure. If you're ever in Astoria, or need an excuse to visit this cute city, do it to visit the 100+ year-old Goonies house in real life. The actual house still stands, and the owners welcome visitors. They just ask you not to park in their driveway.
