While most people are getting ready for high school at 13 or 14 years old, some extraordinary people win an Olympic gold medal at that age. The youngest athlete to ever compete in the Olympics competed in the 1896 Athens Olympics and was only 10 years old. Even though he won a bronze medal, not the gold medal, Dimitros Loundras still holds the record for the youngest athlete to compete in the games. There isn't an age limit for participating in the Olympics, although there are specific restrictions for each sport.

The schedule for the Olympics has changed over the years, but currently, the Summer and Winter Olympics both take place every four years. After the 1992 Olympics, the International Olympic Committee decided to alternate the Summer and Winter Olympics every two years to cut down on the costs of the games.

2024 is an Olympic year with the 2024 Summer Olympics taking place in Paris starting on July 26, 2024. The Summer Olympics this year will feature 32 sports, including the debut of breakdancing as an Olympic sport. The closing ceremony for the 2024 Summer Olympics will take place on August 11, 2024.
