25 Gadgets That Were Once Cutting Edge But Now Obsolete

There was a time not all that long ago when the refrigerator was a marvel, and the idea of holding the world in your hand was something out of science fiction. Now, in places like the U.S. and much of the developed world, we live steeped in the quiet hum of technology, smartphones in our pockets, tablets on our laps, machines washing our clothes and our dishes while we stream music to wireless speakers. It's all so seamless, so constant, that it's hard to imagine life without it.

But nothing lasts forever, not even the gadgets we rely on so instinctively. Just like rotary phones, floppy disks, or those old boxy TVs, today's wonders may be tomorrow's relics. You can see it in the way companies like Apple and Samsung march out shiny new devices each year, turning last year's "latest and greatest" into something that suddenly feels slow, clunky, even forgotten. It's not entirely unfair, as technology moves at a very fast pace. However, there's something a little bittersweet about how quickly we leave things behind. How quickly we move on.

24/7 Tempo compiled a list of once-revolutionary gadgets that are now obsolete. We reviewed company websites, reference materials, and media sources and considered products invented mostly over the last century that significantly changed how people performed tasks or communicated. (Check out 20 ancient inventions we still use today).

Here are once-revolutionary gadgets that are now obsolete.
