The Ultimate Zombie Movie Ranking, Based on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes

Many people don't realize that zombies in earlier films weren't the same as the creatures we know today. They were once benign monsters transformed by voodoo and spiritual magic that evolved with the 1968 film, "Night of the Living Dead," directed and co-written by George A. Romero. The controversial movie forever changed what a zombie was and became one of the greatest zombie films ever made.

Zombies are typically depicted as human corpses brought back to life, often green, grey, or pale with rotting and/or missing body parts. But not all zombies look like they are falling apart. Many kids' movies and TV shows have alternative versions that look semi-normal. Zombie movies can be about anything and in any genre, from gruesome horror flicks to comedies.

To determine the greatest zombie films ever made, 24/7 Tempo developed an index using average ratings on IMDb, an online movie database owned by Amazon, and a combination of audience scores and Tomatometer scores on Rotten Tomatoes, an online movie and TV review aggregator, as of June 2024, weighting all ratings equally. Documentaries were not considered. Director information is from IMDb.
