Dessert is often thought of as the best part of a meal. A quote, and many variations on it, by American writer Ernestine Ulmer, even popularized the phrase "Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first." This is a belief held by many and nothing quite satisfies the tastebuds after a savory meal than a bite of something sweet. Whether you have an uncontrollable sweet tooth or you're craving a specific sweet, there are plenty of dessert options to choose from.
But before you choose that chocolate triple-layer cake, or opt for a bit of apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, it is important to consider which desserts are better for you, relatively speaking, and which ones will have you eating enough calories to satisfy your nutritional intake for days in just one serving. Calories aside, there is also fat and sugar to consider.
While most of us don't eat dessert with the sole purpose of being healthy, we also don't want to blow our entire week's worth of calories and fat in just one serving. Most of us don't burn an insane amount of calories in one day unless we are a top footballer (also known as a soccer player) gearing up to play in EURO 2024. It's important to know what you are eating, as well as how much, so you can avoid calorie-laden desserts that may seem more healthy than they really are. The items listed here are some of the most calorie-packed decadent desserts. (Click here to read about milkshakes that have more calories than entire meals.)
