10 Celebrities Who Were Once Prisoners of War

More than 16 million Americans served on active duty during World War II, and another 4.8 million fought in the First World War. While countless soldiers never returned home, many did—resuming their lives with families, careers, and a sense of normalcy.

Among them were men who endured the brutal experience of being held as prisoners of war. Some of these former POWs not only survived captivity but went on to achieve fame and recognition in the years that followed.

To create this list of 10 prisoners of war who later became celebrities, 24/7 Tempo drew on sources including IMDb, History Hit, and The National WWII Museum. We then selected individuals from a variety of fields and eras, and turned to resources such as Biography and Britannica for detailed biographical information.
