A Pew analysis found that Asian restaurants make up 12% of all dining spots in America, which makes it likely that a significant portion of Yelp's reviews focus on Asian cuisine. When Yelp released its "Top 100 Places to Eat in the US 2024" in late January, over a quarter of the highlighted restaurants were indeed Asian ones.

24/7 Tempo has extrapolated those restaurants from the Yelp selection by identifying those with keywords like ramen, Japanese, Japanese curry, sushi bars, izakaya, Korean, Indian, Asian fusion, Indian, Himalayan/Nepalese, Thai, Filipino, Vietnamese, Szechuan, dim sum, or Chinese. For each entry, we have added a brief complimentary sentence from Yelp reviews.

It's surprising that only two of these restaurants are Chinese, given that Chinese cuisine accounts for 39% of Asian dining establishments in the U.S., according to a Pew study. Japanese cuisine, including ramen, is the most prevalent, followed by Indian cuisine. Additionally, there are two Himalayan/Nepalese entries: one offering kebabs alongside other Indian dishes, and another intriguingly labeled as "Indian, pizza," serving pizzas topped with Indian flavors.

Yelp's "best" compilations often spark reactions from restaurant critics and dedicated food enthusiasts, especially regarding selections and omissions. Notably, some well-known names in various Asian culinary categories in the U.S. are absent from the list. Additionally, several of these establishments primarily offer take-out or have limited seating. Nonetheless, the vast community of Yelp reviewers has made their voices heard, indicating that each of the listed places provides an enjoyable dining experience.
